Group's Perspective
We believe that Huck Finn has strong adventures but it doesn't have a meaningful ending. There's nothing to hold the adventures together and to tie the story together. We also believe that Huck Finn shouldn't be read in schools because there's no main point or conclusion, it just causes problems and brings up questions. The dialect in this book can be offensive and hurtful to some students like Paul Butler who wrote in "Why read the book." Although this shouldn't be read in school this is still a masterpiece because of the racial tension and good literal meaning. Even though this book is offensive and some people are trying to change the words around, Francine Prose argues that slave is equally offensive and there's no point of changes the language. The language is important in the context of the book because it gives an incite of the time period of when the book was written. Timothy Jay said, " uncomfortable topics need to be confronted rather than tucked away." Huck Finn wasn't a hero because he didn't show his moral and growth in the story of actually saving someones life, he was more of a hero to himself because of his development throughout the book.
